Owatonna girls tennis has been a perennial contender in the Big Nine Conference title talks and 2024 looks to be no different with the Huskies starting a perfect 5-0 in the first week of the season.

The Huskies’ wins have all come over conference opponents and three of the five were 7-0 shutouts.

Most recently, Owatonna competed in a triangular with Red Wing and Mankato East/Loyola and took home two 5-2 wins.

The Huskies’ singles and doubles teams have been a force to be reckoned with and contain two singles athletes and two doubles pairings that remain undefeated across all matches.

Staying perfect for the Huskies so far have been No. 3 singles athlete Patty Jo Procopio, No. 4 singles athlete Genevieve Froman, the No. 2 doubles pairing of Lauren and Hannah Nelson, and the No. 3 doubles pairing of Haley McNett and Gabi Navarro.

Earlier in the week, Owatonna earned three straight 7-0 wins over Austin, Albert Lea, and Faribault to kick off the 2024 season.

The Huskies finished last season in third place with a record of 8-3 in-conference and 9-5 overall, and figure to be in competition with Rochester Mayo and Century for the Big Nine Conference title.

Up next for Owatonna is a home match against Winona on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 4:45 p.m.
