Beverly Simon, 83, Owatonna, obituary

Beverly Ann Simon, 83, passed away on Jan. 14, 2026, at Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Jon Simon for 62 years.

Born on Sept. 23, 1942, in Owatonna, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Catherine Conelly. Bev grew up in Owatonna, was a 1961 graduate of Owatonna High School, and attended Winona State College. Her proudest role in life was as a wife and mother, always putting her family first. Her most treasured moments were spent surrounded by family and knowing they were happy and safe.

Beverly’s innocence, sweetness, compassion, and selflessness created her inner beauty and youthfulness. Honesty, wholesomeness, and purity described her natural beauty; without effort, she captivated the hearts of everyone she met.

She was always giving to others and asking for nothing. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—simple was always better. Her favorite activities included baking, gardening in her beautiful flower beds, reading, antiquing, and shopping adventures with her sister. She volunteered at The Pink Pantry and spent years working as a medical receptionist. She loved her nightly Jeopardy and weekly television shows. An avid baseball and football fan, her favorites included the Braves, Twins, and Red Sox, the Minnesota Gophers, and of course the Vikings and Patriots.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jon; devoted children: daughter Tammy (Simon) Dean and her husband Brad of North Attleboro, Mass.; son Jeff Simon of Claremont; and daughter Kelly Simon and her fiancé Steve Shonka of Maple Grove. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, Amanda (Pete) Krafka, Megan (Tom) Lucia, and Tyler (Kristin) Dean; five great-grandchildren, Felicity, Avery, Rose, Jack, and Riley; many nieces and nephews; as well as three grand-dogs, Grace, Buddy, and Eleanor. She was the dear sister of Pat Cupkie of Owatonna.

Bev’s family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at St. Croix Hospice and Benedictine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospice, Attn: Support Foundation, 1175 Center Point Circle, Mendota Heights, MN 55120. Please make checks payable to Hospice Support Foundation, in memory of Beverly Simon, or consider donations to the Owatonna Public Library.
