Blossom star makes Vikings All-State Team

Blooming Prairie wide receiver/linebacker Mitchell Fiebiger had an unforgettable senior season, leading the Awesome Blossoms to a perfect 5-0 record and helping them win the Section 1A Championship. His season became even more impressive when he was named to the annual Minnesota Vikings All-State Football Team.
The Vikings All-State Team is made up of senior student-athletes from all classes of football in the state. The student-athletes who make the team are selected by the Vikings in conjunction with the Minnesota Football Coaches Association.
Fiebiger was one of 32 players who made the team and the only one from Class A.
He’s looking forward to competing against players from other classes.
“I’m very excited and pumped up to go out and play,” he said.
In addition to being the only player from Class A on the team, Blooming Prairie Head Coach Chad Gimbel said he’s the first Awesome Blossom to be selected to this prestigious team.
Fiebiger mentioned that being one of the few players selected for this team makes this honor meaningful to him.
“This honor means a lot to me especially because not very many people get to do what I'm going to be doing so it’s a very special thing,” he said.
Gimbel said he’s a worthy recipient of this honor because he plays the game the right way.
“He makes huge plays on offense and defense,” he said. “If you watch our games, he is a player that you will notice as the best player on the field.”
He noted that what makes Fiebiger such a good football player is his passion for the sport, his love of contact, his competitiveness, intensity and relentlessness.
Fiebiger added that his passion for the game has helped make him such a skilled football player.
Gimbel said his passion for the game is evident during the offseason, practices and games.
“In the offseason he lives in the weight room, either at school or at home, and went to a number of football camps during the summer the last two years. At practice he is intense, has fun on the field [and is always] focused on getting better. During games he loves to compete, it’s as simple as that,” he said.
His competitive nature helped Fiebiger become a four-year starter for the Awesome Blossoms. After starting at offensive guard as a sophomore, he moved to receiver as a junior and has made his biggest impact the past two seasons.
Last season, he caught 21 passes for 523 yards (24.9 average), six receiving touchdowns and ran the ball four times for 32 yards. On defense, he recorded 134 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss and three sacks.
With his help, Blooming Prairie went undefeated and won its first-ever football championship.
“He was a huge part of our success last year,” said Gimbel. “He was a thumper in the middle of our defense—when he tackled guys they never fell forward. His hard hitting was an intimidating factor in the middle of our defense. On offense he was a big play guy, but also a very good blocker that opened up big holes for our run game. In the biggest of games, he would always make a huge play on offense.”
This season, he was once again one of the Awesome Blossoms’ best players. He caught 30 passes for 589 yards (19.6 average) in just five games, nine receiving touchdowns and ran the ball three times for 15 yards and one touchdown. On defense, he compiled 73 total tackles, six tackles for loss, three and a half sacks and one interception.
In addition to helping Blooming Prairie win its third straight section championship, he said Fiebiger became a leader of the Awesome Blossoms by working hard, playing hard, giving his best effort and playing with passion.
“[He was] a leader by example in these areas on and off the field,” Gimbel said.
Whether on and off the field, Fiebiger enjoyed his whole high school football career, but he said the
most enjoyable part was the entire 2019 season.
He plans on playing collegiate football but is not sure which school yet.
