Blossoms pound Goodhue 27-6

The Awesome Blossom football team brushed off an early Goodhue touchdown and then safeguarded their unbeaten record. A 27-6 district contest victory over the Wildcats at Goodhue Friday, Sept. 20, upped the Blossoms record to four consecutive victories.
Goodhue took the opening kickoff and marched right down the field for a touchdown. A 40-yard pass brought the ball to the Blossom 10, but it was a Sam Opsedahl pass to Riley Christianson that scored the poInts. The extra point try sailed wide, and Goodhue led 6-0.
BP brushed that touchdown off like a bothersome fly to take the lead just two minutes later. The runs of Matthew Pryor and passes to Karson Vigeland, Mitch Fiebger and Gabe Hagen moved the ball to the Wildcat 22, from where quarterback Kaden Thomas found Vigeland in the corner of the end zone for the last 22 yards. Carson Brennecke kicked the first of his three extra points for a 7-6 Blossom lead.  That was just the start.
The Blossoms added a touchdown in each of the last three quarters for the convincing victory over a very tough foe.
“This is the first game in which we have had to play in the second half,” remarked Coach Chad Gimbel, “and they make you fight for every yard.”
The second quarter touchdown came on a Thomas to Fiebiger pass good for 43 yards, and the third quarter score came when BP took the opening second half kickoff and marched quickly in for the score. Thomas found Alex Baldwin in the flat, and he galloped 30 yards for the touchdown.  Despite two interceptions in the end zone, Thomas threw for 190 yards on 16 of 22 attempts.
Vigeland counted his second touchdown and the fourth score for Thomas in the final quarter on a 9-yard strike. Brenneke missed his only extra point of the game when his kick sailed wide of the goal post. The win showed a real team effort from both the offense and defense.
Fiebiger led the defenders with 12 tackles, but Luke Larkoski and Dylan Nirk both had 7 tackles, ad several other players had multiple takedowns, Goodhue finished with just over 200 yards of total offense.
Pryor led the Blossom offense, as he piled up 158 yards. BP finished with 420 total yards.
The next hurdle for the Blossoms will be a Homecoming contest Friday night against Randolph.
