Owatonna Fire Responds to Structure Fire
OWATONNA, Minn., May 13, 2026 –Owatonna Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 742 18th Street Southeast, Owatonna. At approximately 4:00 PM on May 12, the Owatonna Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters located fire on the main floor and the deck. They extinguished the fires and remained on scene for two and a half hours to ventilate and to ensure there was no further fire extension into other areas of the house.
“This is a great example of neighbors looking out for each other and calling 911 to report the fire. I also want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to make sure the smoke alarms in your home are working,” said Jacob Dashiell, Assistant Fire Chief. “We encourage all Owatonna residents to test your alarms monthly, change batteries twice a year, and replace smoke alarms every 10 years.”
The residence sustained extensive damage, and one person has been displaced because of this fire. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. The cause is still under investigation.
