Tigers race out to early lead, hold on to beat Wildcats

After a tough loss to the defending Class A state champion, Blooming Prairie, the previous week, the Medford football team’s offense and defense bounced back during its 14-6 win over Goodhue on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The offense got going right away thanks to a 42-yard run by Josiah Hedensten. That set the Tigers up with a first down near the Wildcats’ 30-yard line.
Throughout the game, the Tigers’ offense was led by its two-headed rushing attack of Hedensten and Jack Paulson. Hedensten ran for 85 yards and one touchdown while Paulson ran for 75 yards and scored the other Medford touchdown. Medford’s offense also benefitted from Goodhue committing 100 yards-worth of penalties.
On defense, Hedensten again led the way with 15 total tackles, an interception and a half-sack. Tate Hermes also had a strong defensive game with 12 tackles.
With the help of Hedensten and Hermes, the Tigers’ defense allowed Goodhue to gain just 197 total yards.
Medford (2-1) will try to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when they travel to Faribault to take on Bethlehem Academy at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30.
