James “Jim” Yankoviak, 76, Claremont, obituary

James Anton Yankoviak, 76, of Claremont, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2026, surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held 11 am. Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the funeral at 10 a.m. Military Honors will be provided by the Claremont Legion Post 422 Color Guard.

Jim was born on Feb. 4, 1949, in Owatonna, to Anton and Dorothy (Weber) Yankoviak.

He graduated from Claremont High School where was a standout athlete.

He married his high school sweetheart Bonnie Quaale in 1968. He was drafted by the Army in 1968 and proudly served in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic and operator, eventually returning home with Honors.

Upon his return from the service, Jim began his 37-year career as a skilled heavy equipment operator and a dedicated member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49. He lent his skills to John Sahf Construction, Knutson Construction, and Kraus-Anderson.

Outside of work, Jim was a passionate sports fan and was an avid hunter with his sons and grandsons. During his retirement years, he worked closely with his son Todd at his business Todd Manufacturing, delivering parts and helping out however he could. In 2021, when he finally “retired” he spent his days at home with Bonnie, an occasional day trip to a casino, and enjoyed spending time with his son and grandkids. He will be dearly missed by his family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie; his son Todd (Jodi) Yankoviak; his grandchildren, Collin (Alecia) Yankoviak, Ryan Yankoviak, Autumn Yankoviak, his step- grandchildren, Tyler Maas and Lauren Maas. He was the proud great-grandfather of Everly, Avayah, and Caysen. He is also survived by his siblings, Donny (Joanie), Barb (Ron) Haugen and Doreen; as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his son, Tony; his parents; and sister and brothers-in-law.
