Jean Ann Hanson 1944 – 2025

Jean Ann Hanson, 80, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully on Feb. 13, 2025, at Traditions of Owatonna, surrounded by the love of her family.

Jean was born in Mankato, and spent her childhood in Lake Crystal, before earning a degree in home economics from Mankato State University. It was at MSU that she met the love of her life, Richard Hanson. They married in 1965 and built a beautiful life together, raising their three children, Jon, Joelle, and Jeff, with love and devotion.

Jean dedicated 28 years to teaching, touching the lives of countless students with her patience, kindness, and wisdom. She found joy in golfing, playing bridge, and—most of all—following the lives and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Owatonna Country Club and spent countless hours there enjoying activities with close friends. She was also a member of the Owatonna Home Economics Club and the Woman’s Club of Owatonna. After retiring, she and Richard spent their winters in Arizona, cherishing the warmth and friendships they built there.

Jean is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Richard; her sons, Jon (Peggy) Hanson and Jeff (Stacy) Hanson; her son-in-law, Brian Burditt; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and her brother, Donald (Veronica) Hansen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Gladys, and her beloved daughter, Joelle.

A visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, followed by a service at noon and a lunch afterward in the reception center at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Owatonna Foundation in Jean’s honor.
