Jean Haubenschild, 80, Blooming Prairie
Jean C. Haubenschild, age 80, of Blooming Prairie, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025, at her home in Blooming Prairie.
Jean was born Jan. 12, 1945, to Robert Newton and Gladys Katherine (Falck) Ramsey in Westfield Township, Dodge County. She attended country schools in Westfield Township and then continued her schooling at Blooming Prairie High School, graduating in 1962.
On July 2, 1970, she was united in marriage to John Bernard Haubenschild, and they were blessed with two daughters, Jill Hermine and Jane Katherine.
Jean worked for several businesses in Rochester, Hayfield, Owatonna, and Blooming Prairie. Her main roles were secretarial, bookkeeping, and insurance agent duties, and Jean retired from her work force duties on Oct. 1, 2007. Jean was very proud of her recovery from the disease of alcoholism, which began on Aug. 23, 2004.
She was a life member of First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie and of the VFW Auxiliary 878 where she served as President and Trustee for several years. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary 52 since 1975 and past member of the Blooming Prairie Ladies Bowling League.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane (Nick) Watts; three grandsons, Nathan, Bradley (Skyller), and Lucas Retterath; one great-granddaughter, Andromeda Retterath; one sister, Sharon Lea; niece, Jennifer (Chad) Spinler; nephew, Kent (Kim) Lea; great-nephews, Samuel Spinler and Alex Lea; great-nieces, Anna and Chloe Spinler, Madison and Ava Lea.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gladys Ramsey; husband, John Haubenschild in 2006; daughter, Jill Haubenschild in 2017; infant brother, Leon Ramsey; infant nephew, Kevin Lea; brother, Ronald (Barb) Ramsey; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Lea.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Heidi Heimgartner officiating. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in St. Columbanus Cemetery, Blooming Prairie.
