Jury acquits other driver in Ostlund crash
Jackie Ostlund
The driver of a vehicle involved in a crash that killed an Owatonna businesswoman has been acquitted of the most serious charge.
The verdict in the trial of Hunter Joseph Conrad, 20, was announced Thursday morning in Waseca County District Court.
Members of the jury found Conrad not guilty of one count of felony criminal vehicular homicide and one count of careless driving, a misdemeanor.
They convicted him of a misdemeanor count of failure to stop at stop sign; he was sentenced to 90 days in jail, stayed, and placed on probation for a year.
The trial was moved to Waseca County because of a conflict of interest in Steele County, where the crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. May 28, 2024 at the intersection of Cedar Avenue North and 50th Street Northwest, about five miles north of Owatonna.
Jackie Ostlund, co-founder of Owatonna’s Insty-Prints and an active volunteer in the area, died as a result of her injuries.
Her husband has filed a wrongful death suit against Conrad and his employer, Ag Partners Co-Op. The case is scheduled for jury trial in June 2026.
A complete story about the criminal case will appear in the July 23 edition of the Steele County Times.
