Lois M. Spatenka, 87, passed away on June 26, 2024, at Benedictine Living Community of natural causes.

She was born on May 9, 1937, in Faribault, to Ernest and Nora (Halverson) Zander. She graduated from Medford High School in 1954.

She met the “Love of her Life” George H. Spatenka Jr. at the Monterey Ballroom and were later married on Oct. 10, 1959, at United Church of Christ in Medford. Making their home in Owatonna, together they had four children: Lori, Gary, Greg and Gale.

Following graduation Lois started her work career at Federated Insurance, selling real estate, and working her self-owned businesses: The Budget Boutique and Curves for Women. She was a true believer and stressed the importance of natural health products and oils and continued selling these products until her death.

She received her 50-year membership pin from the Owatonna VFW Auxiliary 3723 on July 20, 2022.

Lois’ “passion” for baking and cooking was inevitable. She was always busy baking for family and friends, especially during the holidays. She made sure there was always a variety and plenty to go around.

She loved to watch sports whether it was her children, grandchildren or a MN team. She was a big fan, win or lose. She was known to make as many family and friends’ events as possible.

Lois loved to sing. She shared her singing gift with everyone: at weddings, funerals, church choir, nursing homes and many other events.

She is survived by her children: Lori (Gary Crawford) Spatenka, Gary (Barb Grant) Spatenka, Greg (Pam) Spatenka, and Gale Spatenka; grandchildren: Jordan, McKenzie, Ryan, Emily, Erin, Olivia, Jacob and Chase; 12 great grandchildren; in-laws; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Nora; husband George; brother Donald Zander; and foster brother Harry Skogen.

Friends may greet the family on Monday, July 8, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. and one hour before the service at St. John Lutheran Church, 1301 Lincoln Ave. S., Owatonna. Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the church with Pastor Dave Klawiter presiding.
