Mary Hanson, 89, Owatonna

Mary Ruth Hanson, 89, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, with Pastor Micheal Simmerman presiding. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home starting at 10 a.m.

Born in New Hope, Ala., Mary later made Minnesota her home after moving there in the late 1950s. It was there she met the love of her life, Marlin Hanson. The two were married for 66 wonderful years and raised five children together, primarily in Blooming Prairie.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found great joy in her family and loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her passions included crocheting, gardening, growing plants, and sharing cherished stories from her childhood in Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Oliver and Ethel Burroughs, son-in-law L. Wayne Blair, and her four siblings. She is survived by her beloved husband, Marlin, and their five children: Larry (Linda) Hanson, Myron Hanson, Aaron Hanson, Carol Hanson, and Wanda Hanson. Mary’s legacy lives on in her nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.

Mary’s warmth, creativity, and storytelling will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
