Medford HoF adds four inductees, one team

The Medford Hall of Fame grows this weekend with the addition of three student-athletes, a teacher/coach, and a state tournament team. The banquet is Saturday, Oct. 14, 5 p.m., at the Owatonna VFW.

Paul Selby was the class of 1963 valedictorian. He was a member of a region runner-up basketball team, played football and was in theater and band. He earned a biomedical Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee and went on to be a U.S. delegate to the United Nations Scientific Committee on Effects of Radiation.

Frank Young lettered four times in baseball and twice in basketball for the Tigers. The 1967 graduate was FFA president and involved in theater and NHS. Young played baseball at South Dakota State University and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Curt Maas won three state wrestling titles. The 2012 graduate took second his freshman year while being part of a third-place team. He also lettered in football, baseball, and track for the Tigers and wrestled at the University of Northern Iowa. He is an orthopedic surgeon resident at Michigan State University.

Oryle Davis taught math and coached junior high football and basketball from 1959 to 1993. A Lake Crystal graduate, Davis went to Mankato State University and served in the U.S. Navy. The 2002 Medford wrestling team won the state Class A championship, tying Frazee.

The Medford Hall of Fame began in 2017 and introduces new members every other year.
