Merilyn Frances Hoium, 87, Rochester

Merilyn Frances Hoium, 87, died July 12, 2019 at
Season’s Hospice in Rochester.
Merilyn was born Feb. 29, 1932, on a farm near Geneva. Merilyn went to a one-room school house in Freeborn County. Merilyn moved to Blooming Prairie High School in 1948. That was where she met her hus- band Donald Hoium. Don and Merilyn were married in July 1950.
Don was in the Air Force and they traveled very extensively. They lived in Germany for four years with our family and the Azores for four years with our family. Merilyn had eight children, two of which were born in Germany.
After the children were grown,
she finished college at Kent State in Ohio and became an accountant. She was also a real estate broker in Indiana. She was active in Catholic ministries as well as volunteer in a myriad of organizations such as Cincinnati Symphony, American Red Cross, Crisis Pregnancy Hot Line, Methodist Hospital Sacramento, and St Mary’s Gift Shop. She helped award financial scholarships to students at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento. She loved all animals especially her dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Merrill
and Annette Winzenburg, her sisters Anita Earl, Alice Thomas, and Betty Good plus two other siblings who died at birth. She was also preceded in death by her
son Donald Jr., his wife Mary (Sweet), and their daugh- ter Stephanie.
She is survived by her husband Donald Sr. (They would have been married 69 years on July 15.), and their surviving children; Larry and Bev (Schleicher), Lincoln, Neb., Kathy and John Riehl, Port Charlotte, Fla., David and Sharlet (Overton) Chicago, Ill., James and Tammie (Fred-
erick), Waynesville, Ohio, Robert, Blooming Prairie, Amy and J.D. Bingman, Arab, Ala., and Deb and Michael, Mankato. She is sur- vived by four brothers, Kenneth and Lois Winzenburg, Henry Winzenburg, Ed and Jackie Winzenburg
and George and Sandy
Winzenburg.
She has 10 grand- children, eight
great-grandchildren
and 1 great-great-grand- daughter.
In lieu of flowers, do- nations can be made to Paws & Claws Rochester.
The funeral Mass was at Pax Christi Catholic Church on July 23, 2019.
Burial will be private at Saint Aidan Catholic Cemetery Bath, Minn.
