The Owatonna Legion Post 77 baseball team rolled right past Byron 16-0 in a quick game at Dartts Park last Sunday.
Post 77 brought its bats, but equally as impressive as the offensive explosion was Mitch Seykora’s pitching.
The rising college freshman threw all four innings and allowed one hit while Byron struggled to find ways to get on base.
Owatonna came out swinging in the bottom of the first with four runs and quickly dashed Byron’s hopes of a fun day at the diamond by adding four more in the second to lead 8-0.
Byron notched it’s only hit of the game in the top of the third, but Post 77’s offensive tirade was far from over.
Owatonna scored seven more runs in the bottom of the third inning to lead 15-0 as both teams headed into the fourth.
Byron took the plate for its last chance at bringing the game within 10 runs and delaying the mercy rule but were once again ineffective.
The game had fallen so far from the opposition that they began to line up at home plate for handshakes after the top of the fourth inning before Byron’s head coach had to remind the team that there was still one more half inning to play.
Owatonna used its last at-bats to score once more and officially end the game at 16-0.
Post 77 second baseman Gavin Saxton recorded three hits and contributed multiple runs.
Owatonna’s next game is at home against Century on Thursday, July 18 at 7 p.m.
