Owatonna Poly Hockey (OPH) made its annual trip up north to Stillwater Area High School this past week where the white, blue, and silver teams all competed in the state tournament.

The squads all took to their rinks and put on a show for the home crowd, with the blue team winning first place and the white and silver squads taking third.

“Our athletes have continuously shown the drive they have for our team. The pride they have is outstanding. They put a lot of effort in all year. You can tell the love for hockey that they have,” said Owatonna poly hockey coach Eric Merxbauer.

The blue team was on fire all weekend in Stillwater and made its run to the title by winning all three of its games.

The squad’s offense and defense were both on point, taking home scorelines of 3-1, 6-0, and 6-3.

OPH’s silver squad had a bit of a tough day on Saturday, losing its first two games by competitive 6-4 and 1-0 scores.

However, the squad played its best game of the tournament with the bronze medal on the line, beating its opposition 5-1 in an offensive frenzy.

The white and silver teams had completely opposite tournaments but still ended up in the same finishing spot.

OPH’s white team won its first game 13-6 in a shootout, then dropped its final two games 5-3 and 10-5 to take third.

An abundance of goals, saves, and smiles were on display during another fun tournament in the books for Owatonna’s local poly hockey athletes.
