With mural painting going on in the background and lots of homemade baked goods, the small city of Ellendale seemed to have turned into a giant-sized bakery Saturday, March 30.
Ellendale residents and supporters have joined hands to raise enough money to pay Chandler Anderson for his art work. He is re-creating a mural that was made many years ago.
The mural has gradually disappeared. It has been part of the Ellendale downtown community for years.
A mural committee has been coming up with fundraiser ideas to pay for Anderson’s hard work. Along with Saturday’s more traditional bake sale, a baked potato party is planned for Saturday, April 20, at the Ellendale Methodist Church. It starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes until 6:30 p.m.
Local humorous speaker Al Batt will tickle everyone’s funny bone. He will talk about Ellendale history through the years.
A freewill offering will be asked. All proceeds will go to the mural fund, said Kellie Mrotz of the Mural Committee. Other members of the mural committee are: Barb Mrotz, Jackie Froman (chairperson), Gwen Reiss, and Jo Lerberg
“Bring your car to the back door of the community center and we will load you up,” said Rebecca Lasahn.
With some hard work and some good, old-fashioned humor, these local hard workers will get a new, original mural to show off to the community.
