Richard “Dick” Carroll, 97, of Owatonna, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center in Waseca.

He was born January 22, 1928, in Huron, S.D., the son of Ralph and Helen (Rea) Carroll. Dick joined the United States Navy and served from 1946-1947.

He married Lorraine Wobschall on July 8, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lemond Township. He worked at Shell Oil Company for five years before they moved to Wisconsin. The family moved back to rural Owatonna in 1959 and settled on the home farm where the family still lives. Dick farmed there until 1992 when he passed it onto his sons. Dick and Lorraine were married for 44 years until her passing in April 1995.

In his free time Dick became a master woodworker, making cabinet, gun safes, trucks and cars and other pieces. He also would tinker on old engines and his Model T. He was a long-time member of the Owatonna Eagles and VFW, and he worked at the Aurora Diner flipping pancakes for years.

He is survived by his sons, Larry (and Nancy) Carroll of Sioux Falls, Roger Carroll of Claremont, Gary Carroll of Lakeville; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; parents, Ralph (and Helen) Carroll; siblings, Lester Carroll, Leonard Carroll, Glen Carroll, and Milo Carroll.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Aurora Lutheran Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Aurora Lutheran Cemetery. The Steele County Military Funeral Unit will be providing honors at the cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the VFW Post 3723, Aurora Lutheran Church, Steele County History Center, or the Owatonna Food Shelf.

The Family would like to give a special thank you to Carol Vigum for the years she spent with dad. Also, a thank you to St. Croix Hospice, and the staff at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center for the care they provided. And a thank you to everyone that visited Dick during his time at Lakeshore.
