Owatonna High School celebrated a group of student-athletes during a National Letter of Intent Signing Day on Wednesday. These Huskies are following their dreams thanks to hard work, both athletically and in the classroom.
Carsyn Brady is taking the rare route of being a two-sport Division One athlete. Both involve running – just a matter of difference in distance. Huskies’ cross-country coach Dan Leer says she “has been a fixture in the OHS sports scene since the fall of her seventh-grade year when she established herself as the top runner in our cross-country program.”
She qualified for state five straight years.
“I think that will be a great fit for Carsyn – a competitive, smaller Division One school with a reputation for top-notch athletics,” said Leer.
Brady started running the 800 late in her prep career but still finished seventh at state last year. OHS track coach Debby Gleason is excited for her.
“She is such an extremely talented athlete with an amazing work ethic. Her combination of speed, power and endurance is the perfect fit to set her up to be a successful collegiate 800-meter runner,” Gleason said.
Brady will pursue a degree in business.
Madison McGinn is heading east to Buffalo, New York, to play lacrosse at Division Two school D’Youville University.
“Madie has an incredible lacrosse I.Q. that has helped her current teammates and is going to propel her forward to a successful college career. Madie has put in an insane amount of time playing lacrosse in the off-season that has set her up to play at a high level,” said head lacrosse coach Dani Licht.
McGinn will study exercise science.
