Stan Lindquist, 74, Blooming Prairie
Stan Lindquist, 74, of Blooming Prairie, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Methodist Campus with family at his side from complications of lung cancer and emphysema.
Stanley Eugene Lindquist was born on April 14, 1950, in Blooming Prairie, to Spencer and Eileen (Hunter) Lindquist. He was raised in the Blooming Prairie area as well as northern Minnesota and California but returned to Blooming Prairie to graduate from high school in 1968. He went on to attend vocational school for drafting and was proud of the fact that he spent his entire career in the same profession of structural steel detailing/drafting.
He met his wife, Cindy Jacobson, at the Blooming Prairie Taystee Freeze in 1968, and they married in 1970 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church and would have celebrated their 54th anniversary on Aug. 8, 2024. Stan and Cindy lived in several areas during their early marriage including Minneapolis, Dodge Center, Austin, and Colorado and returned to Blooming Prairie in 1984 to raise their two children, Sarah and Cody.
Stan enjoyed family get-togethers, playing horseshoes, golfing, and watching the Vikings but his passion was fishing, and he especially loved Lake Kabetogama in northern Minnesota. He spent many seasons there catching walleye and enjoying the beautiful Minnesota scenery with son Cody, grandson Bresley, brother Randy, and cousin Terry.
Stan retired in 2014, and he and Cindy enjoyed several US road trips and traveled to many areas including Hawaii, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Alaska, and Panama Canal. Stan also enjoyed playing cribbage and euchre and loved teaching his grandkids how to play.
Stan is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughter, Sarah (Jon) Esplan; son, Cody (Madison) Lindquist; six grandchildren, Nathan, Sophia, Payton, Bresley, Odin, and Lucas. He is also survived by his mother, Eileen Lindquist; brother, Randy (Sue) Lindquist; and nieces, Kady and Jessica.
He was preceded in death by his father, Spencer; sister, Lonna; in-laws, Don and Dona Jacobson; brother-in-law, Lynn Jacobson; and grandparents, Gordon and Selma Lindquist, and Harold and Pearl Hunter.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Mayo Clinic, St. Mary’s and Methodist Hospitals, and the wonderful loving team at Methodist 4th floor Oncology, and Methodist ICU for Stan’s care during his last days. A special thank you to the Blooming Prairie Cancer Group for their generosity and support during Stan’s illness.
The celebration of Stan’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church.
