Thomas Kimbro, 64, Owatonna
Thomas (Tom) Gilford Kimbro, a loving husband and father, was called home on June 27, 2024, surrounded by his family following a short illness.
Tom was born to Benjamin and Shirley Kimbro on March 23, 1960, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Following high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Army.
On June 16, 1984, Tom married the love of his life, Mary Henkensiefken in Owatonna. Tom’s time in the U.S. Army, took him and Mary to many places including Germany. Following his honorary discharge from the Army, Tom and Mary made their home in Owatonna. Tom worked at various businesses throughout his life with his last one being with the MN Department of Corrections in Faribault.
Tom enjoyed spending time outdoors, riding motorcycle and snowmobiles, fishing and tinkering around in his garage. He also enjoyed time playing various video games. Tom was also dedicated to his community by serving as a special deputy for the Steele County Sherriff’s Office, first responder, storm chaser and member of the Red Cross. He always put other’s needs first.
Tom’s main priority and dedication was his family. On Jan. 8, 1991, Tom and Mary welcomed into the world their only daughter Miranda. Miranda was Tom’s pride and joy. He enjoyed watching her grow into the beautiful daughter she is today. Tom, Mary and Miranda would go on various trips around Minnesota as well as other states including South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Tom’s enthusiasm, laugh and jokes will be missed by everyone close to him. His loving kindness and willingness to sit and listen helped him develop a strong relationship with his great nephews Emerson and Easton. Together, they would laugh and play video games together. Tom’s memory will always remain in Emerson and Easton’s hearts forever.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Emerson and Viola Henkensiefken; sisters Jackie and Karen Kimbro; and brother-in-law Thomas Becker.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Mary; daughter Miranda (Chris Steck); sisters Pat Scherbing, Judy (Shawn) Selig, and Debbie; brothers Tim and Benjamin. Siblings-in-law Linda (Daryl) Youngerberg, Delores Becker, David Henkensiefken, Gary (Deb) Henkensiefken, Susan (Bob) Stoltz, Karen (Rick) Ditlevson, Dale (Crystal Young) Henkensiefken as well as many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m. at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, with the Rev. Barbara Streed presiding. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors will be at a later date.
