Times named Minnesota’s best

Best newspaper in Minnesota, Mills Award, Steele County TImes, 2025

The Steele County Times has been named Minnesota’s best newspaper.

The announcement came at the conclusion of Thursday night’s awards ceremony of the Minnesota Newspaper Association in Brooklyn Park. The Times was awarded the Mills Trophy for Minnesota’s Outstanding Weekly Newspaper.

The Times earned 25 awards, including several first-place awards in the most coveted categories of the contest: General Excellence, Lynn Smith Community Leadership, Press Photographer’s Portfolio, Freedom of Information Award, Category X and Government Affairs Reporting.

This is the first time ever that the Times has been named the top newspaper.

“I am incredibly proud and humbled by this tremendous honor,” said Rick Bussler, publisher of the Times. “We’re in this to provide our readers the best possible local news coverage, and this honor reinforces what we’re all about.”
