Agnes Nash, 91, Owatonna

gnes Shirley Nash died peacefully, on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Nash Sr.; her son Bruce Nash; her parents and six older siblings.

Agnes (Aggie) was born March 16, 1932, in Owatonna, the daughter of Vitus and Agnes (Miller) Wesely. After her father’s untimely death, her mother later married Joe Kubista, who became her stepfather and helped raise Aggie and her siblings. Agnes spent most of her life in the Owatonna area. She attended the Saco Country School near the family farm. After completing school, she went to work at Hy-Line Chicks and later Jostens in Owatonna for several years and lived in town.

Aggie married James Nash Sr. on Sept. 17, 1955, at Sacred Heart Church in Owatonna. They were initially located on a farm near Alden. They moved back to Owatonna in 1961, where they purchased the family farm from her mother and farmed it for 30 years. She was a devoted and loving mother to her six children. She grew large flower and vegetable gardens while carrying on the many the traditions of cooking, baking, and canning that she had learned from her mother.

In addition to raising her family and working on the farm, Aggie was active in her community. She served on the Steele County Planning and Zoning Commission in the 1970s and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She served a term as chair of the Women’s Committee of the local Elks Lodge. She and Jim retired in 1991 and moved off the farm into the city of Owatonna. She cherished her role as grandmother and gave of herself to her family. She also gave of her time volunteering at Sacred Heart Church, Meals on Wheels, and other charities.

Aggie enjoyed many hobbies and interests including gardening, dancing, golf, playing cards, traveling, entertaining friends, and most of all spending time with family. She eventually transitioned to Ecumen Countryside Senior Community in 2019, where she enjoyed social and music activities. Agnes was loved dearly by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and many friends.

She is survived by her brother Ivan Kubista and her children: Shirley (Greg Schultz), Linda (Curt Mracek), Cindy (Paul Diegnau), James Nash, Jr, (Jan) and Jennifer (Dan Wright); her 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Parrott presiding. Friends may greet the family at the church from 9-11 a.m., with a Parish Rosary starting at 9 a.m.
