Allen Dennis Johnson

Allen Dennis Johnson, 93, of Blooming Prairie, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie. 
Allen Dennis Johnson was born on Jan. 2, 1925 in rural Blooming Prairie on the family Century Farm to Elmer and Edna (Dennis) Johnson. He attended District 47 country school and Blooming Prairie High School. At a young age Allen’s father died and he began working on the farm. 
On June 1, 1947, he married Dorothy Davis at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with three sons. He was named the Steele County Outstanding Farmer and placed third in the state competition. 
In 1960 he purchased the Bixby Feed Mill that he operated until retiring in 1988. He was an entrepreneur starting many local businesses including; Tri-Ford, Prairie Farm Service, Prairie Pullet, Green Valley Egg, and others. In 1990 the couple began wintering in Arizona until 2011.
He served on the Steele County Fair Board for 37 years. He was a member of The Owatonna Elks, Osman Shrine, and Prairie Lodge. Allen enjoyed traveling, square dancing, and yardwork. He filled his free time fishing, playing cards, lawn mowing, and golfing. 
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Johnson of Blooming Prairie, three sons, David (Jan) Johnson of Houston, Texas, Greg (Betti) Johnson of Blooming Prairie, and Doug (Tamzen) Johnson of Blooming Prairie; seven grandchildren, Heather, Geoffrey (Emily), Jason (Jenny Wondra), Lori (Nate) Arndt, Grant, Alex, and Erin (Matthew) Larsgaard; three great-grandchildren, Talon, Ethan, Sophia, and one due in the spring of 2018; sister, Geraldine Oswald of Blooming Prairie; sister-in-law, Virginia Davis of Clarks Grove; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. 
Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Edna Johnson; siblings, Georgiann Toquam, Elmer “Don” Johnson, and Mary Alice Golden; six brother-in-laws, and three sister-in-laws.
A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 at the First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Interment was at Union Cemetery, Bixby.
