Alvin Borchert, 80, Owatonna

Alvin Borchert, age 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, at his home in Owatonna.

Friends may greet the family from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna, and one hour before the funeral service at the church on Monday. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery.

Alvin was born to parents Woodrow and Margaret (Finger) Borchert on March 22, 1943, in Blooming Prairie. He attended school in Blooming Prairie and Dodge Center where he discovered his love of fixing and making things. He was a 4-H member and even won a state championship.

Alvin married Carol Stickley on May 1, 1965, at Redeemer Lutheran in Owatonna. The couple made their home in Owatonna, raising three children.

Alvin was a tool and die maker by trade. He worked for General Equipment, Viracon, OTC, and ran his own business, Borchert Tool and Die, for many years.

In retirement, Alvin worked as a property manager, along with his wife, and repaired things in his shop. Alvin enjoyed modifying and fabricating hand controls for handicap accessible vehicles. He was passionate about helping make people’s lives barrier free.

Alvin was a life member of the Eagles 1791 and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. His hobbies included attending the Steele County Free Fair, hunting, and collecting toy tractors and John Deere toys.

He is survived by children Don Borchert (Beth Lewis), Ellendale, Roxane Lee, Blooming Prairie, and Rodney Borchert (Melanie Abraham) Owatonna; grandchildren Casandra (Noah) Weis, Andrew Caswell, Courtney Lee (Samuel Evenson), Jordan Gutierrez (Taylor Sletten), Jacob Borchert (Ashley Freund), Megan VanLoon, Allissa (Derek) Vickstrom; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivian (Dale) Dulas, and LaVonne (Mike) Cammock.

Alvin was preceded in death by his wife Carol in 2022.
