Betty Charon, 81, Owatonna

Betty Charon, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Marys campus in Rochester, with her family by her side.

Betty was born on Jan. 6, 1942, to Melvin and Cristel (Jacobson) Peterson near Park Rapids. She graduated from Bemidji High School.

Betty was a beautiful person inside and out. Her presence enveloped those near her into a space of comfort and love. Her family was very important to her, and she cared deeply for the people around her. She was kind and caring and always interested in new things. She was a passionate gardener, animal lover, quilter, painter, cook and an avid traveler. She will be forever missed. Until we meet again.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Jim Charon (husband of 42 years); Ray Veseley (husband of 13 years); and Dennis Peterson (brother).

Survivors include Linda (Steve) Berge of Bagley; Julie Charon of Sparta, Wis.; Alan Charon of Kasson; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; Mick (dog); Kitty (cat).

Betty’s funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at South Zumbro Lutheran Church, Kasson. There will be no visitation before the funeral.

There will be a memorial and burial service in Becida, Minn. in spring of 2024.
