REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
BLOOMING PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA

A regular school board meeting of the School Board of Independent School District #756, 
Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, was held in the High School Media Center at 7:15 p.m. 
(Open Forum at 7:00 p.m.).

ALSO PRESENT: Superintendent of Schools, Elementary Principal, High School Principal, Members of the BPTA MEMBERS ABSENT: Jon Sunde
 
IV. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
 
Motion by Jenny Thurnau and seconded by Michelle Vigeland to approve the agenda as presented.  Motion carried.  (6 Aye/0 Nay)
 
V. PRINCIPAL REPORTS
 
Reports given by Mr. Staloch and Mr. Worke. 
 
VI. ITEMS ON WHICH BOARD ACTION IS REQUESTED
 
Minutes, Bills, Treasurer’s Report, Resignations, Employment, Donations
Motion by Pam Hameister and seconded by Jenny Thurnau to approve the minutes, bills, treasurer’s report, resignations, employment, and donations.  Motion carried.  (6 Aye/0 Nay)
 
Spanish Trip
Motion by Michelle Vigeland and seconded by Steve Ille to approve the upcoming Spanish Trip from June 19th through June 30th.  Spain and Italy will both be visited by sixteen individuals (eleven students and five adults).  Motion carried.  (6 Aye/0 Nay)
 
Timeline for Food Service Bids
Motion by Jenny Thurnau and seconded by Pam Hameister to approve a timeline for the food service bid process which is required every third year by the MN Department of Education for a food service management contract.  Successful bid to be awarded at the May 15, 2017, regular school board meeting.  Motion carried.  (6 Aye/0 Nay)
 
Resolution Relating to the Termination and Non-Renewal of a Teaching Contract
Motion by Rodney Krell and seconded by Kelly Braaten to approve a resolution relating to the termination and non-renewal of a teaching contract of a probationary teacher.  (Roll Call 
Vote:  6 Aye-Krell, Braaten, Hameister, Vigeland, Thurnau, Ille /0 Nay/1 Absent-Sunde).
 
VII. ITEMS OF INFORMATION AND/OR DISCUSSION ONLY
 
Operating Levy
Discussion held regarding operating levy options.
 
Committee Reports
A report update was given on the committees:  Education Foundation; Technology; Wellness; and ZED.
 
Enrollment Data
Enrollment for the 2016-17 school year as of March 15, 2017, is 408 at the elementary school and 314 at the high school (308 attending BPHS and 6 attending PSEO).  The PSEO number consists of 3 seniors and 3 juniors with attendance being full-time.

The Board noted dates of importance.

Motion by Jenny Thurnau and seconded by Pam Hameister to adjourn the meeting at 7:41 p.m.  Motion carried.  (6 Aye/0 Nay)
 
Tentatively, the next Regular School Board Work Session will be held on Thursday, 
April 13, 2017, at 6:00 a.m. in the Board Room at the High School.  Tentatively, 
the next regular meeting of the School Board will be Monday, April 17, 2017, at 
7:15 p.m. in the High School Media Center (Open Forum begins at 7:00 p.m.).
 
A complete copy of the official minutes may be found in their entirety in the official minute book located in the superintendent’s office at the high school; however, they will not be available until approved by the School Board.
