Breaking News: Fatal crash in Owatonna claims life of woman

Lead Summary

A woman from the Twin Cities has died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in Steele County.
The State Patrol has identified the victim as Diane Evenson, 66, of Minneapolis. She died at the scene of the crash on I-35 at Hoffman St. in Owatonna Saturday afternoon.
Authorities say Eric D. Lehrer, 55, of Owatonna, was traveling northbound on I-35 when his Chevy Impala crossed the median and collided with a Toyota Camry going southbound and driven by Evenson. The roads were reportedly dry at the time of the crash.
Lehrer received non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
Both drivers were buckled up with their seat belts and no alcohol was detected on either driver, according to the patrol.
Owatonna Fire Department, Owatonna Police and Gold Cross Ambulance assisted the state patrol at the scene.
After a quiet month in January for fatalities on Minnesota roadways, February is turning out to be quite different. So far this month there have been 14 fatalities compared to nine for the entire month of January.
