BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Claremont fatality identified

The State Patrol has identified the victim of Friday’s fatal crash near Claremont as 8-year-old Emerson Harberts of Dodge Center.
Emerson was a passenger in the vehicle driven by her mother, Rachel Marie Harberts, 43. Rachel’s 12-year-old son, Jaxon, was also in the vehicle. Both Rachel and Jaxon are fighting for their lives at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Emerson was a third grader at Blooming Prairie Elementary School where her mother is a first grade teacher. Jaxon is a seventh grader at Blooming Prairie High School. They were on their way to school when the crash happened around 7:12 a.m. on Highway 14 and County Road 3 on the edge of Claremont.
Rachel has been a teacher in the Blooming Prairie school district for 16 years. She taught Title I for three years and first grade for the past 13 years.
