Bruce Ebeling, 81, Blooming Prairie, obituary

Bruce Leroy Ebeling, age 81, of Blooming Prairie, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City, Iowa.

Bruce was born Jan. 6, 1942, in Owatonna, to Lavern and Margaret (Anderson) Ebeling. After graduating from Blooming Prairie High School, he attended trade school for watch making and repair.

On Sept. 14, 1963, Bruce married Hjordes Johnson at the First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. Together, they ran Ebeling's Antiques for more than 50 years. He enjoyed the outdoors (biking and cross-country skiing), traveling in the motorhome, reading about history and could beat just about anyone in Jeopardy.

Hjordes passed away in July of 2023. Bruce remained dedicated to caring for her during her battle with Alzheimer's. He was a kind-hearted soul with a genuine love for his family. Bruce had a profound love for animals, particularly his faithful dog, Jagger, who was always by his side. Throughout his life, Bruce welcomed several dogs, cats, and even a parrot for more than 40 years.

Survivors include his three daughters and sons-in-law, Andre (Roger) Kubista of Goodhue, Tonya (Marc) Welsch of Apple Valley, and Breta (Tim Forgey) Ebeling of Eagan; seven grandchildren, Brianne (Tyler) Robinson, Kaia (Scott) Moechnig, Derek (Emalie) Kubista, Lauren Welsch, Madelyn Welsch, Lucas Forgey and Jacob Forgey; eight great grandchildren, Emmett, Olivia, and Peyton Robinson, Harrison, Zachary, and Harper Moechnig, and Cooper and Harvey Kubista; his sisters, Alice Johnson of Tucson, Arizona and Lavera Luskey of Dewitt, Iowa; his nieces and nephews, Kim (Bob Farrand) Johnson, Kyle (Laurie) Johnson, Keith (Krystal) Johnson, Kent Johnson, Shelley Johnson, Randy Swenson, Teryl Nelson, Jay Swenson, Kerry Kennemer, Kara Spinler, Jeannie Cates, Jackie Miller, Jodi Johnson, Lisa Stout, Ross Johnson, and Wade Johnson.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Lavern and Margaret Ebeling and wife, Hjordes Ebeling.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Blooming Prairie City Cemetery. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
