Caryl Dohrmann, 87, Mantorville

Caryl Dietrich Dohrmann, 87, of Mantorville passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 8, 2018.  
Caryl was born to Rudolph and Hulda Dohrmann at home on the family farm in Milton Township on May 12, 1931. He grew up the youngest of 10 kids and played outside in the field, in the creek and was sent to the “rock” when he had too much energy for indoors. He went to a small country school and graduated from the eighth grade.
After a team of horses dragged his father, Caryl took over the family farming duties with his mother at the age of 13. He worked the farm until he went into the U.S. Army. After his return, he met and married the love of his life, Karen Gaedtke, on Aug. 24, 1958. They lived on the family farm until 1968.  
Caryl and Karen moved several times, finally settling in Kasson where they lived and raised their family until 2001. At that time, they moved with Tom into their retirement home in Mantorville.
Caryl worked at MorMans Feed in Kasson as a warehouse manager and truck driver for 26 years. He then worked at Schmidt Printing in Byron until he retired to help care for Karen. Caryl learned how to bake and that became his hobby. His favorites were donuts, cookies, pumpkin bars and yummy bars, all of which he shared generously.
Caryl’s life was about his family; most often shown by traveling, attending reunions and celebrations. He enjoyed time with his wife, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, nephews and many extended family members. He also enjoyed being outdoors in the sun with a light breeze blowing while he mowed the lawn or sat on his deck. Each morning he watered his flowers and fed his fur babies and birds.
Caryl was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, his wife Karen (2012) and son Tom (2016).  
He is survived by sister-in-law Mary Dohrmann; son Michael Dohrmann; daughter JoAnn Hines; grandchildren Megan (Jarod Nevin, Andrew Dohrmann, Ian (Elizabeth) Hines, Allison Hines and Sean Hines; great-grandchildren Isaac Nevin, Jade Hines and one on the way, and many special nieces and nephews.  
May the love and generosity he shared with us be paid forward by all who knew him.
The funeral service for Caryl was held on Friday, July 13 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson with Pastor John Allen officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.
