Charlotte Nelson, 90, Gilbert, Arizona
Charlotte Nelson, age 90, of Gilbert, Ariz., formerly of West Concord, Minn., passed away on March 15, 2017.
Charlotte was born Jan. 6, 1927, and graduated from Madelia High School and Hamline University. She married Harry Nelson in 1949. She taught in New Brighton Public Schools and at Martin Luther College in New Ulm before joining West Concord Public Schools in 1957, where she taught English, Spanish and served as the school librarian until her retirement in 1982.
In addition to her school teaching she taught private piano lessons, served as an organist and choir director at West Concord United Methodist Church, directed the West Concord Community Chorus, and volunteered with the West Concord Historical Society and local public library. She also directed the community chorus at Foun-tain East in Mesa, Ariz., and was a member of a number of clubs and organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter. She is survived by her son, Mark (Susan) of Knoxville, Tenn., Tim (Monica), of Faribault, brother Russell (Patricia) Riley of St. Cloud, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is planned for 11a.m., Saturday, May 6 at the West Concord Historical Society. Friends are invited to come greet the family, share memories and eat a light lunch.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the West Concord Historical Society or West Concord United Methodist Church.
