Crash leaves one dead, one critically hurt

A head-on crash Tuesday night south of Hope has left a New Richland area woman dead and an Owatonna area man with critical injuries.

Rescue personnel were dispatched at 9:40 p.m. to the scene near the intersection of 37th Avenue and 93rd Street Southwest.

Steele County Sheriff’s Office deputies found two vehicles; the female driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver had critical injuries, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office, and was airlifted to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus in Rochester.

No names have been released.

The case remains under investigation by the SCSO, with the assistance of the Minnesota State Patrol.

In addition to those agencies, crews from Mayo Ambulance and the Ellendale Fire Department also responded to the crash.
