Darrell Phelps, 79, Owatonna

Darrell Frederick Phelps, 79, of Owatonna was called home by his Heavenly Father early Monday morning, Feb. 6, 2017. 
Darrell was born Feb. 7, 1937 to Frederick and Dorothy Phelps in Dodge Center. He married Laurel Flaaen on Dec. 5, 1959 at West Concord First Baptist Church. Darrell served as an Army Medic from 1960-1962. Darrell and Laurel were able to spend a year in Germany during this time. Darrell retired from Wenger Corporation after 43 years of employment. 
Darrell and Laurel were blessed with three sons, four grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. 
Darrell was a quiet man but left behind a legacy of love for faith, family, friends, and sports. Darrell and Laurel also had many close friends whom they loved dearly and spent time with attending gospel quartets, traveling, playing games, and having date nights. 
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Dorothy. He is survived by his wife, Laurel, his sons, Steven (Michelle), Corey (Cathy), and Kent, his three grandchildren, Alisha (Rob), Karley, Taylor, and Mathew, and great granddaughter, Kamryn. 
He is also survived by his brother, Dale (Karen), and sister Connie (Chuck), and several nieces and nephews. 
A memorial service was held Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church.
