David Buryska, 87, Owatonna, obituary

David M. Buryska, of Owatonna, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Benedictine Living Community.

All are invited to greet the family on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Brick-Meger Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the funeral. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Jim Buryska.

David was born on May 29, 1938, in Owatonna, to Stanley and Martha (Kubicek) Buryska. David attended St. Mary’s Academy and later graduated from Owatonna High School in 1956. While in high school, he wrestled on the varsity team and worked at Partridge Greenhouse.

In November 1956, he began his career with the United States Post Office, where he worked as a clerk/carrier. He dedicated 49 years of service before retiring in July of 2004.

On Oct. 7, 1961, he married Karen Stangler at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna. The couple made their home in Owatonna, raising three children.

David was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge, and the Eagles.

David enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s school events and sports, reading, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. In addition to watching high school wrestling and all sports on TV, Dave also spent time playing softball, bowling, cross-country skiing, canoeing and country western dancing.

David will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Karen; his children, Gina (John) Parsons, Kent (Julie) Buryska, and Jason (Sharon) Buryska, all of Owatonna; seven grandchildren, Elaina (Ryan) Frank, Emily (Javier) Torres, Brenden (Carrin) Buryska, Aidan (Brittney Olson) Buryska, Asia (Caleb) Anderson, Jessica Parsons, and Garrett Buryska; five great-grandchildren, Cayden, Morgan, Camila, Adalyn, and Oliver, and the sixth

great-grandchild on the way; in-laws, Carol Buryska, Kathy Langer, Leo (Pat) Stangler, and Tim (Kathy) Stangler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Sylvester and Robert; three sisters, Betty, Teresa, and Sister Eileen.

David lived his life in the Owatonna community, where he was known to many, spending time with close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Owatonna Wrestling Association or St. Mary’s School.
