David Madson, 73, Albert Lea

David “Dave” Owen Madson, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at Thorne Crest Skilled Nursing Care Center in Albert Lea.

Friends may greet the family Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023, from 3–5:30 p.m. at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Westfield Cemetery, west of Blooming Prairie.

Dave was born Nov. 1, 1949, in Waltham to Obed and Daisy Madson. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1968. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Pechacek, on April 19,1969 at the First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie.

Dave and Marge were happily married for over 54 years and enjoyed their life together to the fullest each day. They were blessed with two children, Kelli Madson and Kendall Madson.

Dave enlisted into the Army, served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in April 1972. He then worked for Steele Rice Ready Mix as a concrete truck driver for many years and thoroughly enjoyed truck driving, leaving that career due to diabetes.

The Madson family then owned West Hill’s Wash-n-Go Laundry and Dave worked maintenance jobs at the Ramada Inn, Triton School District and Medford School District, until retiring in 2002 due to continued health issues.

As a family, they enjoyed many traveling and camping trips throughout the states with friends and family, playing games, fishing, and cracking jokes. They enjoyed Christmas gatherings, watching the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Hockey. Dave enjoyed reading western books, tinkering, watching western movies, listening and dancing to rock-n-roll and country music. He especially enjoyed attending and watching his children play in their sporting events.

Dave is survived by his wife Marge, their daughter Kelli (Briona), son Kendall, and granddaughter Jocelynn. He is also survived by his sister Judith (Randy) Gasner, sister Barbara (Terry) Schneider, brother Orlyn Madson, brother Bruce (Marsha) Madson, brother Merlyn Madson, brother Russell Madson, sister-in-law Jean (Dave Robbins), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerald and two nephews.

Memorials are preferred to the Owatonna VFW Post 3723 “Veteran’s Memorial Fund” in David’s name or other preferred memorial.
