There is something new at the Owatonna Eagles Club and they are going to celebrate with a Pack the Patio event from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 28.

The Eagles already had a patio on the side of its building, but club members wanted to make it something special and it was decided that a pergola would make it stand out, said Danielle Wilson, Eagles Club manager.

The pergola is an outdoor structure with vertical posts and an open lattice or crossbeam roof that can define outdoor spaces and serve as an architectural anchor for gardens, patios and seating areas.

The idea has been in the works for years starting with the patio itself, she said, and the club members have been raising money to make it a reality.

The patio is about 60 by 24 foot, she said, and when the money for the pergola was obtained, Greenhaven Construction was hired to do the work to add it. The patio, Wilson said, can accommodate 150 people without tables and 75 with tables.

Actual construction did not take long, Wilson said. It began May 11 and by the end of the week the pergola was finished.

The pergola will be the perfect addition to the spacious patio and arrived just in time for the great weather ahead, the club announced on their Facebook page, saying it will be perfect for “gatherings, lunches, our famous pizza and wing nights, car shows or for the plain ol’ fun, this new shaded spot is going to be the place to be this summer.”

Wilson said that everything will be ready by next Thursday and all the furniture will be in place so the patio will be fully operational. There will also be entertainment at the Pack the Patio party. The musical group the Shiflies, she said, will be playing from 6 to 8 p.m. and everyone is invited to come and enjoy the patio, pergola and entertainment.

The Eagles Club is also serving as the corporate sponsor for this year’s United Way campaign, she said.
