Eugene D. Trom

Eugene D. Trom, 89, of Blooming Prairie, passed away at his home Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018.
Eugene D. Trom was born on March 14, 1928 in rural Blooming Prairie on the family farm in Westfield Township (Dodge County) to Elmer and Marie (Wilson) Trom. He attended Westfield Country School and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1948.
On Nov. 29, 1952, he married Mary Distad. Their marriage was blessed with three sons. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage together.
Eugene farmed for 15 years before moving in 1966 to Owatonna where he worked for Von Ruden Manufacturing as a sales person. In 1977, the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where Eugene worked as a sales manager for Lester Prairie Manufacturing. He later worked for a company in Canada.
Eugene loved sales and his travels took him all over the United States as well as Canada. He also traveled with his wife to Italy for a farm show.
Eugene moved back to Minnesota in 2000. He and his son, Greg, started and operated a plastics manufacturing company in Hayfield for five years.
Eugene was an inventor and had a couple of patents. The Level-Air Grain Spreader was his most successful.
Community was important to Eugene as he served on the Blooming Prairie City Council for two years.
He was a faithful member of Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Owatonna. Eugene loved his family, his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They also loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Trom of Blooming Prairie, three sons, Michael (Janel) Trom of Minneapolis, Greg (Tammy) Trom of Hayfield and Scott (Lisa) Trom of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Holly and Peter, Christopher, Megan and Emily and Kelly, Anna and Ben; six great-grandchildren; step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; brothers, Lowell Trom of Blooming Prairie and Kenny Trom of Austin; sister, Darlene Schmidt of Owatonna.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Marie Trom; brothers, Richard, Ralph, Charles and Lloyd; sisters, Bernice and Verna.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Owatonna. Visitation will be before the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private at a later date.
The family requests memorials to be given to a charity of choice.
