Forsberg signs with Coastal Carolina

Blooming Prairie track and field athlete Annaka Forsberg recognized a lifelong dream last week when she signed her letter of intent to become a part of Coastal Carolina University’s Division One track and field team in 2025.

The Awesome Blossom senior has been a standout field athlete for her team over the course of the past two seasons, winning back-to-back state titles in the high jump and qualifying for state in her first season competing in the triple jump.

“It’s definitely crazy to think about it and it didn’t feel real until now. But now that it does, it feels awesome to reach that goal,” said Forsberg about finding her home at the Division One level.

According to the senior, Forsberg’s choice to attend CCU in Conway, South Carolina was relatively easy.

“My major was my major factor in where I wanted to start looking at schools. When I limited it down to the coast, I looked at where track was and where it was the best. I liked Coastal Carolina a lot and they had a great team. I can’t wait to get down there where it’s warm,” said Forsberg about her decision.

The senior said she plans on studying marine biology.

Making Forsberg’s story even more special to her family is the fact that the senior will soon be living a dream that both her and her father, Andrew, have shared for many years.

“I think he might even be more excited than me. He’s already talking about wanting to be there for every meet. He’s always been so supportive and has taught me so much over the years,” said Forsberg.

Blooming Prairie’s star jumper will have plenty of eyes on her during the 2024 high-school season.

After winning back-to-back state titles with jumps of five feet, four inches and five feet, five inches, Forsberg will look to become a three-time champion – all while taking on even more responsibility for her team.

“I think my main goal is to get to either five feet, nine or 10 inches in the high jump and I think I want to add another event too,” said Forsberg.

Along with her dominance in the high jump, Forsberg will again compete in the triple jump and said she also has plans to potentially compete in the long jump.

However, the senior knows that her future with the Chanticleers will likely revolve around her high-jumping career.

“They already have insanely talented jumpers, so I know my role will likely be just in the high jump, but I really want to keep working on my triple jump to hopefully be able to compete in that event in a couple of meets,” said Forsberg.
