Franklin Manderfeld, 86, Owatonna
Franklin “Frank” Manderfeld passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
He was born Aug. 1, 1937, to Elder F. and Rosella (Spinler) Manderfeld. He attended school in Medford and graduated from Medford High School in 1955. During high school, he was a member of the FFA.
Frank met Bonnie Kruger and they married on Jan. 29, 1959, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church, Blooming Prairie. Together they had 10 children.
Frank enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged on Sept. 24, 1962. Frank worked as a heavy equipment operator for Concrete Materials, Fretham Brothers, and the City of Owatonna. Frank loved working part time for 38 years at the Sinclair Gas Station. Frank retired in 2006 from the City of Owatonna after 25 years of service.
Frank enjoyed playing concertina and accordion, gardening, playing cards with friends on Saturday nights, and fishing for bullheads in Waterville.
He is survived by eight children: Bridgette (Bill Harrison) Manderfeld, Mike (Sandy) Manderfeld, Sue (Perry) Caswell, Christine Manderfeld, Deb (Sam) Hager, Karen (Brad) Johnson, Craig (Amy) Manderfeld, Jill (Nate) Wright; 17 grandchildren: Ian, April, Jeremy, Justin, Christopher, Korey, Crystal, Danielle, Samantha, Stephanie, Karissa, Cole, Bailey, Kelsy, Tanner, Hunter, and Hannah; and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosemary Rockwell and Carolyn Heim.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie, his parents, two children, Jacqueline and Jodi, brother Donald and sister Delores.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Friends may greet the family Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home from 5– 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church. A parish rosary will be recited at 4:40 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
