Frederick Blanch, 93, Roseville, obituary

Frederick Blanch, age 93, of Roseville, Minn., passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023.

Survived by children Frederick Jr., William, Lynda, and Susan; grandchildren Simone and Marley, Erik and Zoe, Rhea and Laura; niece Cynthia Porter and nephew Bruce Porter; loving friend and companion Jean Kalka.

Preceded in death by parents Frederick and Beulah Blanch; sister Priscilla (Blanch) Porter (Roger), nephew Gary Porter; wife Motoko Blanch.

Frederick was born in Chicago and raised in Southwest Minneapolis. He graduated from Southwest High School in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota, where he obtained his BA in psychology.

It is impossible, however, to contain Frederick’s life’s work and passion under one umbrella. The truest of Renaissance men, just some of the many hats Frederick wore in life include: teacher, salesman, consultant, composer, entrepreneur, beekeeper, songwriter, poet, humorist, and novelist.

In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to classical music, was a member of the Minneapolis Writers workshop, enjoyed all things nature and loved escaping to the Minnesota Arboretum. He raised tropical fish, orchids, was a champion for animal rights and a voracious reader. He will forever be remembered as a man of refined humor and taste.

A service celebrating Frederick’s life will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Claremont on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11 a.m.. Following services, all are invited to a lunch at The Hubble House, 502 N. Main St., Mantorville).
