Gene Franke, 81, Hayfield

Gene Harland Franke, 81, passed away on Sept. 20, 2019, at his home in Hayfield.
Gene Franke was born on March 10, 1938, the son of Glen and Genevieve (Frandle) Franke in Blue Earth.
Gene married his best friend, Barbara Osmundson on Nov. 23, 1957 in Delavan, Minn. Gene and Barbara moved several times before they made their home and life together on their family farm in Hayfield. Farming and family were very important to Gene. In tough situations, he would “Lighten the Mood” with something to create laughter. Gene and Barbara enjoyed going to auctions in search of their treasures, and even online auctions. Gene was one to help everyone and anyone and willing to give advice, “Just Saying.”
Gene is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Michelle) Franke, Jacksonville, Fla.; Michael (Linda) Franke, Thomas (Betty Ann) Franke and Barbara (David) Wolf, all of Hayfield;  his grandchildren, Alex Petersen, Amber (Brian) Padley, Joshua Franke, Melissa (Jacob) Meyer, Ian Franke, Jared Franke, Beatrice Franke, Heather (Chase) Collins and Joe Franke; and great-grandchildren; Gabryel Franke, Jeremyah Franke and Isaac Meyer. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara in 2018; granddaughter, Ellen Peterson and one brother Harland Franke.
The celebration of life service for Gene was Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield with Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. The family wishes to express a special thank you to all caregivers and anyone who helped Gene over time.
