Ginskey shines in Gusties debut

Just one year after leading the Huskies to a state tournament berth, former Owatonna quarterback Jacob Ginskey is already turning heads at Gustavus Adolphus College.
The true freshman made his starting debut two weeks ago against St. Scholastica and wasted no time putting up some huge numbers.
In his first-ever game for the Gusties, Ginskey put up 271 passing yards and 28 rushing yards for nearly 300 total yards of offense and added three passing scores and a rushing touchdown.
Ginskey stepped into his role after senior quarterback and three-year starter George Sandven began the 2024 season with two touchdown passes and eight interceptions through six games.
After a 43-0 loss to Bethel University, Gusties’ Head Coach Peter Haugen decided to make the switch and was immediately rewarded with a 51-13 win over St. Scholastica behind Ginskey’s big day.
Owatonna Head Coach Jeff Williams took to X to post Ginskey’s stat line, saying, “Great debut by our guy.”
Gisnkey also proved that his stellar debut was no fluke by following up with another big performance against Macalester College last weekend.
Though the true freshman had a bit more difficulty rushing and earning completions with a 42.3% mark against the Scots, he nearly posted an identical passing stat line to his debut.
Ginskey finished with 268 passing yards and three touchdowns, flexing his ability to throw the deep ball by recording touchdowns of 41, 49 and 76 yards – all to junior receiver Caden Kleinschmidt.
Fans looking to follow Ginskey’s blossoming collegiate career can watch him take the field next on the road against St. John’s University on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
