Gloria Rieken, 19, formerly of Hayfield
Gloria Frieda Rieken, formerly of Hayfield, will be laid to rest on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019. Gloria passed away on or about Nov. 9, 1970 of unknown causes. Her body was discovered in rural Mille Lacs County and remained unidentified until Feb. 9, 2019.
Gloria was born to Peter and Frederika (Tebben) Rieken on Nov. 21, 1951. Gloria grew up with her parents and siblings on the family farm near Hayfield. She was a good student and had a great interest and talent for art. She was a 1969 graduate of Hayfield High School and a student at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis at the time of her death. Being able to study at the U of M was a dream come true for her.
She loved the popular music of the 60s, in particular she had a fondness for Bob Dylan.
Gloria is survived by her mother, Frederika, brothers and sisters, Edward Rieken, Kingston Springs, Tenn., Delores Jones, Dexter, Ilene (Tom) Grosam, Brownsdale, Bradley (Sally Johnson) Rieken, Austin, and Richard (Tanya) Rieken, Sargeant, and many nieces and nephews.
Gloria was married to Larry Smith of Watertown, S.D. on July 3, 1970, and the marriage was annulled after her disappearance.
Her father, Peter, died Jan. 19, 2019, shortly before her body was identified.
Visitation will be 12:30 to 1 p.m. with the funeral services at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 First St. SE, Hayfield, with the Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
