Owatonna senior Will Halverson was selected as the Region 1AA male nominee for the Triple “A” Award, making him one of eight finalists for the award at the state level.

The award has been presented to high school seniors since 1988 and recognizes students who excel in the classroom and in their extracurricular activities spanning from sports to fine arts.

Will is one of eight male finalists for Class AA at the state level. He will be invited to a recognition banquet in March and League officials will announce the four statewide (Class A and Class AA) Triple ‘A’ Award winners at that time. All 32 finalists will also participate in an on-court ceremony during the Class AAA championship game of the boys basketball state tournament. The statewide award winners—a girl and a boy from Class A and Class AA schools—will also receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship. This is a tremendous honor for Will,” said Owatonna High School Activities Director Marc Achterkirch in a press release from the school.

Halverson’s resume for the award included his involvement in football (four years), basketball (four years), band (four years), choir (four years), orchestra (three years), carolers (three years) track and field (three years), solo/ensemble contest (one year), as well as being a two-time state participant in athletics.
