HOT PURSUIT
Before heading into winter, I always like to get a little extra fall cleaning done around the house. And within the past couple weeks it has led me to shampooing the carpets.
Such a chore always leads me to the dilemma of whether to hire a professional cleaner or do it myself. I chose the latter his time around.
For years I have owned a Kirby vacuum cleaner, which comes with a pretty solid shampoo system. I never know if I really have a handle on what I’m doing, but I give it my best shot.
It seems like there are always some nasty and stubborn stains that pop out at me whenever I walk across the carpet. Of course, they are pet stains. I always feel helpless when it comes to removing those stains.
No matter how hard I try, it seems like they still lurk around my carpets like a bad plague. I spray and spray, scrub and scrub, roll the shampooer over the spot multiple times and guess what? An outline of the stain remains forever etched in my carpet.
To my defense, I’ve tried the pros in the past and there are some stains they can’t get at either.
As I’m sure you can relate, it’s beyond frustrating.
I guess I just have to accept the fact that I’m going to live with spotty carpet until I decide to purchase new carpeting.
I’m at the end-of-life expectancy with my carpets. In fact, I’m way beyond. I believe the carpets are approaching the 20-year mark, though to be honest many of them don’t look that bad. I know, though, I’m pushing the limit and will need to replace them soon.
Maybe I just need to look on the bright side. At least I have remembrances of pets no longer around.
And then there’s the stains I can’t figure out how they ended up where they did. Like the speckles running alongside my computer desk. No idea where they came from. And they won’t come out.
Oh, the joys of home ownership and maintaining a house. I come across constant reminders every day of things that need a little TLC. My biggest problem is finding the time to provide that love and attention parts of my house so desire.
Perhaps it’s time you go in hot pursuit of some fall cleaning before we’re hunkered down for winter.
