Huskies beat Rockets in final home dual

Owatonna boys golf scored a win in its final home dual of the season by taking down Rochester John Marshall (RJM) 315-359 at Owatonna Country Club last week.

The Huskies were sharp from start to finish and their efforts reflected well on the scorecards as Owatonna athletes swept first through fourth place in the individual standings.

Eighth grader Jaxn Hacker led all Huskies by shooting a 77 while playing in his normal role as the team’s No. 1 golfer.

Hacker had a hot start to both the front and back nines with a birdie on No. 1 and another on No. 11 to knock two strokes off his score.

His 77 put him just six over par, but he was not the only Huskies’ athlete to break 80 on the day.

Owatonna junior Grady Roush and freshman Will Vincelli both shot 79 to finish eight over par and secure a tie for second place.

Similar to Hacker, Roush scored two birdies in his round, making a pair of threes on par four holes No. 5 and 16.

Vincelli also added a single birdie to his score by shooting a four on the par five No. 8.

Senior Mason Pelinka was one stroke away from joining Hacker, Roush and Vincelli, but finished with an even 80 to tie with RJM’s Miles Anderson for fourth place.

Pelinka had an opportunity to shoot in the 70s after scoring a birdie on No. 17 to sit at 75 total strokes with one hole left to play, but a costly double bogey on the par three No. 18 cost him the final stroke to stay at 80.

Owatonna’s competed at the Big Nine Conference meet on Tuesday, May 19 at Rochester Eastwood Golf Course, however, stats and results from the event were not available at the time of press.

The Huskies’ next competition will be the Section 1AAA tournament held at Lake City’s Jewel Golf Club on Tuesday, May 26.

Tee times for the event had not been made official prior to Monday, May 18.
