Huskies’ Dutton takes 30th at state

Owatonna’s Mya Dutton was the Huskies’ lone participant at the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) state swim and dive meet last week and took 30th place in the girls’ one-meter diving competition.
The junior earned her top-32 finish in the Class AA state ranks by scoring 147.95 points.
“I felt a lot more comfortable being there this time around. I felt pretty good about my performance. It was kind of upsetting to see where I placed, but everyone there is so talented and I know I did my best,” said Dutton.
Dutton earned her way to the state meet by qualifying as the fourth-place finisher at the Section 1AA Meet in Lakeville two weeks ago.
She had previously competed at the state meet two years ago, taking 28th place; however, an abandoned dive at last year’s section meet disqualified her from the competition and held her out of qualifying for state.
“It felt really good to be back. I put in a lot of extra work in the off-season and it’s really nice to see it all pay off,” said Dutton.
She will return to the team as a senior in 2024 and has goals of making it back to state once more.
“The goal is to make it back for sure. But I’m also really excited to be a senior and one of the older athletes on the team. It’s always so fun to meet all of our new teammates each year,” said Dutton.
