Bruce Kruckeberg, 77, Sioux Falls, obituary

Bruce Kruckeberg passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Dec. 31, 2022, at the age of 77.

Bruce was born Sept. 3, 1945, to Kenneth Sr. and Edith (Fiebeger) Kruckeberg, in Owatonna. He was the second of five sons of Kenneth Sr. and Edith. The family moved to Blooming Prairie when Bruce was young. The family then moved from the family farm into the town of Blooming Prairie after a fire on the farm. Ken and Edith owned the Village Café for a brief time in downtown Blooming Prairie.

Bruce attended country school in Blooming Prairie. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in June 1963. After high school he graduated from Minnesota State University-Mankato with a degree in Social Work and Psychology. Bruce worked as a federal employee at the Social Security Office in Marshall from 1974 until his retirement.

On Dec. 4, 1965, Bruce married the love of his life and soulmate, Iva (Wood) Kruckeberg. Together they had two children, Wendy and Laurie. The family made Marshall their home from 1974 until 2006 when the couple moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. to be closer to the girls and grandchildren. They lived in Sioux Falls from 2006 until present.

Survivors include: daughters Wendy (Jon) Geistfeld of Rapid City, S.D., and Laurie (Brad) Auch of Sioux Falls; grandchildren Matt Geistfeld (Sioux Falls), Carrie (Matt) Schaefers of Harrisburg, S.D., Adam (Megan) Geistfeld of Rapid City, Lyndsey Stekl, Taylor Stekl, Alec Stekl, Brooklyn Stekl, and Sydni Auch, all from Sioux Falls; six great-grandchildren (Melani, Colton, Nora and Weston Schaefers, Maddy and Lainey Convery); brothers Doug (Lynda) Kruckeberg of Mankato, Dennis Kruckeberg of Hayfield, Kenneth Kruckeberg Jr. of Pequot Lakes, and Todd (Patty) Kruckeberg of Eden Prairie, as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Bruce was preceded in death by his mother and father.

A memorial service will be held later in 2023 near Austin.

In lieu of cards, Bruce and Iva requested any memorials be sent to St. Jude’s Hospital.
