Corey Lynn Phelps, 54, of Owatonna died Jan. 5, 2023.

He was born on a sunny Saturday, Aug. 31, 1968, to Darrell and Laurel (Flaaen) Phelps. Growing up in the country, with two brothers, provided many days of adventure searching in the woods, riding go carts, minibikes, and all kinds of ball games.

While still in high school, he worked at Owatonna Graphics. He loved band and jazz band and was drum major for marching band.

After graduation, he moved to Minneapolis to work in the paper industry. Corey and a partner started Bindery Worker’s, Inc. in Edina, working until ill health led to his retirement in 2020.

From his birth through high school, Corey was involved at Bethel Baptist Church, enjoying many friends there.

Corey married Cathy Springer on April 13, 1996. In 1999, son, Mathew, joined the family. He has been a huge blessing through Corey’s extended illness.

Corey’s favorite place was the deer camp, north of Orr, enjoying many family times there. He was able to make one last trip over Labor Day weekend with his brothers and friends.

Corey was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Phelps; grandparents Frederick and Dorothy Phelps; grandparents Maynard and Mabel Flaaen; uncle Joel Flaaen; aunt Julie Flaaen, and in-laws Dale and Darlene Springer.

He is survived by wife Cathy and son Mathew, mother Laurel Phelps, brothers Steven (Michelle), Kent (Joleen), aunt Mary Lou (Larry) Sorn, uncle Dale (Karen) Phelps, aunt Connie (Chuck) Avery, nieces Alisha (Rob) Field, Karley (James) Busse, nephew Taylor Phelps and great nieces Kamryn and Karsyn Field, sister in-law Pam (Brian) Raichle nephews Nick and Alex Raichle, sister in-law Jennifer Thompson and nephews Aiden and Marek Thompson, and many cousins and friends.

At his request, there will be no funeral.
